James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for frequently casting his friends in his projects. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has confirmed discussions with Gunn about a role in the upcoming DC Universe.

The DC Universe aims to surpass the success (or lack thereof) of the previous DC Extended Universe, which suffered from internal conflicts and inconsistent vision. While the DCEU had some box office successes, it also experienced several financial failures and a lack of overall cohesion. Warner Bros. hopes Gunn, known for his Guardians of the Galaxy films, can steer the DCU away from these issues, possibly by bringing familiar faces into the fold.

According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, reiterated that she's discussed joining the DCU with Gunn. At San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con, when asked which DC character she'd like to play, Klementieff responded cryptically, hinting at a specific role Gunn has in mind. She emphasized her desire to continue working with Gunn, stating that they're actively exploring possibilities.

Klementieff also reflected positively on her experience working with Gunn on the Guardians of the Galaxy films, expressing gratitude for the opportunity. She acknowledged the conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which saw the team disband, but remained open to reprising her role as Mantis in future projects.

Gunn subsequently confirmed Klementieff's comments on Threads, dispelling rumors of her casting in the upcoming Superman movie. He clarified that their discussions concern a different, unspecified DC character.

This casting choice has generated some debate, with some criticizing Gunn for frequently using the same actors. However, others argue that this practice is common among filmmakers, and that familial relationships shouldn't necessarily disqualify actors. Ultimately, the success of Klementieff's potential DC role will depend on her performance.

The Guardians of the Galaxy films are streaming on Disney+.
