Elon Musk May Face Bans in Diablo 4, PoE 2 for Boosting

by Christian Feb 19,2025

Elon Musk's alleged cheating in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 has sparked controversy, with fans questioning the integrity of the games and the developers' response. Screenshots of a private conversation revealed Musk's admission to paying for account boosting, a violation of both games' terms of service.

Account boosting, where a player pays another to level up their account, is a clear breach of Blizzard Entertainment's and Grinding Gear Games' rules. Despite this, both companies have declined to comment on whether they will ban Musk's accounts, leading to criticism from players.

Forum posts express disappointment at the lack of action, with players questioning whether billionaires are exempt from the rules. One Path of Exile player stated, "So now billionaires can buy their way to the top...this is a massive blow to the credibility of RMT enforcement." Similar concerns are echoed on Battle.net, with players demanding accountability.

Both Grinding Gear Games and Blizzard have remained silent, citing policies against commenting on individual player actions. Musk, who previously boasted about his gaming skills and high rankings, justified his actions by claiming it's necessary to compete with Asian players. He also clarified that while he streams and posts gameplay videos, they are genuinely his own performance.

Musk's claims of high-level gameplay were previously met with skepticism due to his demanding schedule. A livestream further fueled doubts, showcasing a lack of understanding of game mechanics. A direct message conversation with YouTuber NikoWrex confirmed Musk's admission of account boosting.

Following the revelations, Musk's ex-partner, Grimes, defended him, citing personal observations of his gaming skills. However, further allegations emerged, suggesting Musk's character was active in Path of Exile 2 while he was attending the Trump inauguration in Washington. The situation highlights a growing debate about fairness and the enforcement of rules in online gaming, particularly concerning high-profile individuals.
