Snow White's opening weekend at the box office was underwhelming, marking one of the lowest domestic totals for Disney's remakes to date. According to Comscore, the film, directed by Marc Webb of The Amazing Spider-Man fame, debuted with $43 million domestically. While this was enough to top the week's chart and rank as the second biggest opening of 2025 behind MCU's Captain America: Brave New World, it fell short of the live-action Dumbo's $45 million domestic launch from 2019 and below industry expectations.
For perspective, other Disney remakes like 2019's The Lion King, 2017's Beauty and the Beast, 2016's The Jungle Book, and 2023's The Little Mermaid all surpassed $100 million in their domestic opening weekends.
Internationally, Snow White had a similarly subdued start, earning $44.3 million, which brings its global total to $87.3 million as per Comscore estimates.
Snow White, a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1937 animated classic, stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. With a reported production budget exceeding $250 million, the film now faces a challenging path to profitability, particularly when marketing expenses are factored in.However, there is a glimmer of hope for Snow White. Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the Lion King remake, started with a modest $35.4 million domestically but ultimately grossed over $717 million worldwide. Disney is likely banking on a similar 'sleeper hit' success for Snow White, especially amidst ongoing scrutiny over the performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has accumulated $400.8 million globally ($192.1 million domestic and $208.7 million international) after six weekends.
IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, noting, "Snow White is a live-action Disney remake that meaningfully adapts its original, rather than creating a lesser mimicry."
