Warner Bros.' seemingly shelved film, Coyote vs. Acme, may be heading for a theatrical release after all, according to Deadline. Ketchup Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based independent film company, is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire the completed film, previously believed to be scrapped.
While the deal isn't finalized, Deadline suggests a 2026 theatrical release is possible if negotiations are successful.
Announced in 2022 and based on Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article, Coyote vs. Acme is co-written by James Gunn and stars Will Forte and John Cena. Initially slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the film was shelved despite completing filming, prompting a significant fan campaign to revive it.
Ketchup Entertainment recently demonstrated its ability to rescue stalled projects, successfully acquiring and releasing *The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie*, another Warner Bros. film facing cancellation. This marked the first theatrical release for a fully animated Looney Tunes movie, receiving positive reviews, including IGN's description as a "laugh-out-loud riot."Ketchup Entertainment's previous projects include Hellboy: The Crooked Man, the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic (starring Ben Affleck), and co-production of Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
