Astro Bot Reaches Unbelievable Milestone

Astro Bot: Reigning Supreme as the Most Awarded Platformer

With a remarkable 104 Game of the Year awards, Astro Bot has officially surpassed It Takes Two to become the most awarded platformer in history. This achievement builds upon its already impressive Game of the Year win at The Game Awards 2024, solidifying its status as an exceptional title.

Initially launched in September 2024, Astro Bot, an expanded version of the popular PS5 tech demo Astro's Playroom, quickly exceeded expectations. It became the highest-rated new game of 2024 and continued to garner critical acclaim. The game's success surprised many, as Sony didn't initially position it as a major PS5 title.

The recent revelation of its 104 Game of the Year awards, tracked by gamefa.com, highlights Astro Bot's unprecedented success. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards. While this is a monumental achievement, reaching the award counts of titles like Baldur's Gate 3 (288), Elden Ring (435), and The Last of Us Part 2 (326) remains unlikely.

Despite this, Astro Bot's commercial performance is equally impressive. By November 2024, it had sold over 1.5 million copies—a considerable feat for a game developed by a team of fewer than 70 people over three years, likely with a moderate budget. Astro Bot's success has undeniably elevated its status within the PlayStation franchise.
